The Reverend Michael Burns will be licensed at Christ Church on 26th April; he was born in Southend and went to school at Christ's Hospital, Horsham in Sussex. After a gap year working in a children's home in Berlin, he trained for the ordained ministry at King's College London and at Chichester Theological College. He served his first curacy in the Broseley Group of Parishes near Telford in Shropshire before moving to a second curacy at All Saints Ecumenical Church, Pin Green in Stevenage. He was then appointed Vicar of Tattenham Corner and Burgh Heath, Epsom in Surrey and after 8 years there he was appointed Chaplain for Younger People at the new Ecumenical Church of Christ the Cornerstone in Milton Keynes. In January 2000 he was appointed Vicar of King Charles the Martyr, Potters Bar in Hertfordshire where he has worked for the past 17 years. During this time he served as Assistant Area Dean of Barnet and has just completed his 5 year term as Area Dean of Barnet.
Michael says in a brief message to the whole congregation: “I am very much looking forward to moving in the spring to Christ Church, West Wimbledon and to meeting you all and getting to know you. You are all much in my prayers and I hope you will remember me in yours. May God bless us all”
